    Monica Burguera Foundation

In 2006 we blogged on a terrible boating accident in Miami. Some young people including Monica Burguera were killed and others injured. Recently we saw visits to our site regarding Ms. Burguera and wondered why. The activity is apparently because her family and friends have started a a non-profit organization, in order to educate boaters and help create awareness of the importance of boaters' safety education. Here at Clark & Watson we consider ourselves boating safety advocates. This is a... Posted on September 29, 2009 at 01:21 am by Dwayne Clark

Cruise Ship Rescues Seattle Couple In High Seas

A Seattle couple in danger of drowning on the high seas was rescued by a cruise ship over the weekend. Christopher Miller and Brandy Meissner were about 400 miles from Hawaii when bad weather, high winds and powerful waves all threatened to swamp their 38-foot boat. They deployed their life rafts -- put on survival suits -- and sent out a distress signal. As the couple huddled together with their two dogs in the middle of the ocean, the Carnival cruise line's Golden Princess appeared and hauled... Oasis of the Seas wows the crowds as it docks at Port Everglades

Oasis of the Seas, larger than life on the ocean's horizon Friday morning, swaggered into Port Everglades, sounding her horn as a crowd of onlookers at John U. Lloyd State Park beach let out a cheer. "Wow!" cried one early riser, joining revelers with binoculars and blankets to greet the 225,000-ton megaship. "It's so amazing!" shrieked another. "It's huge." The world's largest cruise ship was accompanied by a flotilla of small boats and doused by water cannons as she headed into her new home... Outback Steakhouse and Pappasito's Cantina - Chain Restaurants Oh My.

Meal: Dinner - 7 oz filet, vegetable medley, mashed potatoes Restaurant: Outback Steakhouse, Houston Texas. Meal 2: Lunch - Fish Taco and Beef Enchilada Restaurant: Pappasito's Cantina, Houston Texas Ok, so I am a bit of a food snob and the thought of a chain restaurant usually sends me running in the other direction. In addition, I am big into supporting local businesses and also eating locally sourced foods. However, while in Houston, I ate at two chain restaurants, so I figured to combine... Oysters, butter, garlic and cheese...what's not to love?

Meal: Dinner - Grilled Oysters and Seafood Gumbo, Magnolia Seafood Salad (mixed greens tossed with spicy creole mustard, topped with shrimp, crab meat), bread pudding Restaurant: Jimmy G's, Houston, Texas Funny thing, almost every time I go to Houston, I wind up having a meal at Jimmy G's, a Cajun restaurant near George Bush / Intercontinental Airport. It may be that much of my business tends to be in that part of the sprawling metropolis but for one reason or another, someone always suggests... Posted on October 2, 2009 at 06:10 pm by Marc Marling

Breakfast, Lunch and 50 Random Songs

Meal: Breakfast and Lunch Buffets Restaurant: Oakley's Restaurant, DoubleTree Hotel Houston Intercontinental Airport Last week brought a trip down to Houston and with it, a decision on how to post about breakfast options within the confines of a hotel. I have decided that each meal on the same trip does not require a separate post and so I have consolidated the experience here. I stayed at the DoubleTree years ago when it was a Hyatt and not much has changed. The restaurant is adequate but... Posted on October 1, 2009 at 08:10 am by Marc Marling

Lawsuit filed against Cal-Dive on behalf of injured maritime worker

Our law firm recently filed a Jones Act & Maritime Law injury case on behalf of an injured offshore worker against Cal-Dive as a result of injuries the worker suffered while working offshore. We filed the case under the Jones Act after discovering that the vessel, owed and operated by Cal-Dive, had hazardous equipment which led directly to our client's serious injuries. Apparently, Cal-Dive "fixed" the safety issue after our client was hurt. However, at this point, Cal-Dive is denying that... Posted on November 16, 2009 at 02:54 pm

Two senators are key to passing legislation requiring the first overhaul of inspections and standards for America's fishing fleets. Maria Cantwell chairs the Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries and Coast Guard Subcommittee of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee. Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe is the subcommittee's senior Republican member. The Senate has been the catch basin of vessel-safety... Posted on September 8, 2009 at 10:45 am by Anderson, Connell & Carey

Another tragedy has struck the Alaska fishing fleet. The KATMAI, a 93-foot head and gut fishing vessel capsized and sank in the Aleutian Islands early in the morning on Wednesday, October 22. It now appears that only four of the KATMAI's eleven crewmembers survived. The last communication from the KATMAI was an e-mail reporting incursion of water into the lazerette, followed by loss of steering. Shortly thereafter, the vessel foundered in the trough of 20-foot seas and capsized, casting her... Posted on October 27, 2008 at 11:03 pm by Anderson, Connell & Carey

Obama and Biden Will Protect Your Rights!

Vessel crewmembers are working people. They don't benefit from tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. They need the benefits and protection sought by labor unions and the party of labor, the Democrats. They need affordable health care and Social Security. They need good public schools for their children. They need an intelligent energy policy and environmental protection. They need the right to organize and the right to fair compensation when they are injured. The Republican party has been in... Posted on September 6, 2008 at 12:20 am by Anderson, Connell & Carey
