Westwood, CA. If you ask some Angelenos about Westwood, they may gush about that hip college town that is home to UCLA, a school that is renowned for both its academic and athletic programs. But, what may surprise many is Westwood's small-town charm and affordable housing. Boasting a population of under 2,000, Westwood is attractively priced with a median house value of $76,000 (2000). Before you pack your bags and call up your realtor, you may want to first check out a map because Westwood may ...

Last week, I mentioned that businesses should hyperlink their street address to one of the online map providers. Why? Well, which one is simpler and less error prone? Clicking on a link that leads to the correct map or retyping an entire street address? Of course, clicking on a link is simpler. Anytime your clients have to retype a street address, they may enter the number, street name, street direction or city name incorrectly, which will lead them to the wrong location. You want your clients ...

Build a Web Site. You cannot revolutionize your web site until you have one. If you are still wavering on this, consider the many consumer opinion websites that have sprouted up as of late that rate local businesses. I can develop a first impression about your business either from your website or from the comments and ratings of your past customers on a third-party website. The choice is yours. Street Address. A few weeks ago, I was searching for a part. I found a website that was selling the ...

What happens when billions of web pages link to click here? Google aggregates all the click here links so that if anyone actually searched for that term, we know that Adobe Acrobat Reader is the #1 click here search result. This isn't because Adobe is optimizing their web site for click here. Instead, a lot of web pages are telling people to click here to download Adobe Acrobat Reader. We can also see the search results for here. As you can see, click here is different from click here. Top 5 ...

How do you market your law practice? For law firms based in a metropolis, focusing on your home base makes a lot of sense. After all, why head towards the suburbs looking for clients when you have plenty of low-hanging fruit in your own backyard. However, if your office is located in the suburbs, what do you do? If you've hung your shingle down the street from Disneyland, do you optimize your web site for Anaheim personal injury lawyer? Or, maybe you borrow a page from the Angels and call ...

Skip the skip button. When confronted with a "skip this page" button, your visitors have to quickly decide whether to click on the "skip" button to avoid the annoying web page or the "back" button to avoid the annoying web site. The "skip" button or link is usually found on the home page of a web site with some sort of flash animation, like where the law firm logo zooms by or spins in and out. Sometimes, there may even be some sound effects. By placing a "skip" button on the home page, the web ...

Hi Friends, Google came has come out with a mini version of their Google Mini. The new version indexes 50,000 documents and costs $1,995. It is very easy to setup, and if you need to upgrade the number of documents you are indexing , you can just purchase an upgrade license and enter in a new license key (like Justia did recently :). Google has a Google Mini product tour online and list of the 200+ file formats the Google Mini indexes. For law firms, I would recommend using a Google Mini for ...

Hi Friends, Google came out with their free Web sites (Google Pages) last week. I was playing around with it (see Sheba's GooglePages Web Site) and it seems pretty nice. The Page Creator is page by page focused, and your subdomain (tstanley.GooglePages.com) will be based on your Google Gmail address (tstanley at gmail.com) leading to possible spam. Natalie Jost has a nice run through and tutorial on using Google Pages on her own Google Pages Web site NatalieJost.GooglePages.com. Anyway check ...

Lately, Google has been involved in a lot of lawsuits: book publishers, DOJ subpoena, Microsoft, France.... However, last month, in a novel twist, a plaintiff, Mark Anderson, convinced the Beverly Hills Small Claims Court to direct Google to remove a number of documents that mention him from the Google index, including newspaper articles and public documents such as a U.S. Bankruptcy Court order. Specifically, the Court ordered Google to remove "all references to [1 individual and 3 companies] ...
