... another two. I spent more time watching the show that day than I have classes in some weeks. Although I wouldn't put it up there with my proudest achievements, watching 6 hours of that show was pretty awesome - and made me eager to consult A&E's schedule for another such marathon this year. But, horror of horrors, the Law & Order Marathon is nowhere in sight. What is worse: it's been replaced by a CSI: Miami marathon. Longtime readers are likely aware of my patent disgust with the CSI ...

Earlier posts here, here and here focused on the danger of local police forces use of highly-armed SWAT teams for routine, non-violent police work, a phenomenom that spawned A&E Network's Dallas SWAT reality show. Well, according to this Dallas Morning News article (h/t Radley Balko), one of the "stars" of the Dallas SWAT show -- Senior Cpl. Johnny Baker -- was recently fired from the police force. What for, you ask? DPD internal investigators concluded that Baker had sex in a Garland motel ...

Debra Cassens Weiss notes that Justice Alito doesn't like those Italian stereotypes revived through The Sopranos, at least, so the Trenton Times reports. Ms. Weiss says in her piece in the ABA Journal that the Associate Justice finds that a "trifecta" (Italian-Americans, New Jersey and gangsters) come together in shows like the popular HBO series. A cleaned up version of the show (that is--something that comports with FCC rules) is currently running on A&E.

A&E launched a new cops series this year called The Beast about Charles Barker (Swayze), a FBI agent teaching his partner about undercover work with a "hard-edged, psychologically driven approach." In a recent review on Slate, Troy Patterson notes that it might be hard to root against Swayze because of his past roles - a heartthrob in the movies Ghost and Dirty Dancing. However, maybe Swayze is a better tough guy than first believed…
