The Wall Street Journal Law Blog has an insightful post on the proposed settlement between the United States and Swiss government. So, at long last, as we blogged earlier, we've got an
end result in this UBS tax situation. The final piece of the settlement, put into effect last week, was announced earlier Wednesday. That component, reached between the U.S. and
Switzerland, will allow the U.S. to get the names of 4,450 UBS account-holders. However, there are nearly 52,000 tax cheats banking with ...

When you hear of someone escaping from prison, you might think of Steve McQueen breaking out of the Nazi prisoner-of-war camp during World War II or Clint Eastwood escaping from Alcatraz. Or, if you're younger, you might think of Tim Robbins working his way through
the sewer pipe in The Shawshank Redemption. All three of these escapes would in fact qualify as an "escape" under the D.C. Crimes Code. But the D.C. ...

"Political power comes out of the barrel of a gun," Mao Zedong infamously said. This was true in the civil wars Mao fought and was too often true in the lawless way he oppressed his
people. It is generally true in the anarchy of international relations, and would be true for individuals if they lived without law. People of practically all political stripes agree
that the problem of force is one of the most important political problems, and I suspect most would agree with me that it is the most ...

Stopped off on my way home from work last night to see this latest Clint Eastwood film. Despite some
comments in the reviews about the predictability of the story, I find Eastwood very watchable, just about whatever he is in, and thought it
would be a fun break before resuming grading exams. The film met my expectations. Eastwood's portrayal of a bigoted retired Michigan auto
worker is perhaps a bit overwrought at times -- he really contorts his face into a growl ...
