ConocoPhillips has withdrawn its application for the proposed Beacon Port LNG project. According to S.L. CNN.com is reporting that Burlington Resources Inc., a subsidiary of ConocoPhillips, has agreed to pay $97.5 M to settle allegations that it underpaid royalties owed on natural gas produced from federal and Indian leases. Yesterday ConocoPhillips announced a terminal access swap agreement with Suez LNG Trading SA, under which ConocoPhillips will provide Suez with access to the Freeport LNG terminal in exchange for access to the Zeebrugge terminal in Belgium over a 20-year term. ConocoPhillips Company has filed an application to export previously imported LNG from the Freeport LNG terminal. Citing current conditions in the U.S. natural gas market, ConocoPhillips is seeking a blanket authorization from the U.S. Department of Energy to export up to 500 Bcf of previously imported LNG over a two year period. A notice in today's Federal Register offers additional details.

Dan Clark, manager of Cook Inlet assets for ConocoPhillips, told the Anchorage Daily News that ConocoPhillips is considering a wide range of options for the Kenai LNG facility, including whether to renew its LNG export license in 2011. Other options for the facility include modifying the plant to accept LNG imports or using the facility for gas storage.

John Lowe, executive vice president of ConocoPhillips, told the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce that he is optimistic about the future of Canadian natural gas in North America, saying that the "long-expected surge of LNG imports … has not materialized.
