The NYT and other newspapers today are printing tributes to Liz Claiborne, who died yesterday at 78. I will always associate Liz Claiborne clothing with the 1980s, where at least in my
hometown, such clothing was very popular. And even if you think the main brand may not be extremely chic, the company also owns Lucky Jeans, Juicy Couture and Kate Spade brands. The obituaries point out that Liz Claiborne, Inc. was the first company founded by a woman to break the
Fortune 500.
