... . For quite some time, this Usana supporter, high level distributor, and former member of the Usana Medical Advisory Board has been illegally referring to himself as a doctor and an M.D. Illegally? Well that's according to the California rules, and McNamara lives in California. He has no medical license in California (or anywhere else, for that matter, since Ohio and Georgia don't let him practice medicine either) and according to an article in the National Business Review he's not allowed to ...

Robert McNamara is dead. Speak not unkindly and all that, but I'm having a hard time seeing what's wrong with Bob Herbert's fire-breathing column. I suppose McNamara deserves some credit for admitting what he did after the fact, but that's not much to set aside the fact that he knew early the war was lost, or not winnable, and kept silent. But are McNamara's successors any less to blame? They seem to have learned nothing from his errors.

"No one comes readily to mind. Yes, Lyndon Johnson bears greater responsibility for the damage done the nation by the Vietnam War. But McNamara is a Renaissance man. Before he helped ruin the American polity, he helped ruin the American economy, pioneering at Ford the bloodless, numbers- ... fund failed 'development' projects. It's a tough record to match." So wrote Mickey Kaus, in 1995. Via Jac, who - like me in yesterday's McNamara obit-post - praises the Errol Morris documentary, "The Fog of War."

Most of us are painfully familiar with Dr. Flea, whose live blogging of his med-mal trial became the thing of which legends are made. So where is he now? Well, it was understandable that he shut down his blog during trial, especially after his lawyer found out about it. But trial is now over, with the case settled and never to be heard from again. The Flea made the front page of the Boston Globe, which certainly was a shock to all, but that too has passed. People have short memories (gnats are ...

"The war became his personal nightmare. Nothing he did, none of the tools at his command - the power of American weapons, the forces of technology and logic or the strength of American soldiers - could stop the armies of North Vietnam. He concluded well before leaving the Pentagon that the war was futile, but he did not share that insight with the public until late in life." Here's an excerpt from the great Errol S. Morris documentary "Fog of War":
