Philip Workman was executed in Tennessee early this morning. Like other states, Tennessee
faced challenges to its protocols for lethal injections. New protocols were released in that state last week and a federal district court judge
ordered a stay of the execution and set a date for a hearing on the protocols. The federal appellate court, however, reversed that order and the US Supreme Court denied a request for
stay of execution in response to the the decision of the Court of Appeals.
