The owner of the 2 restaurants, Chandrakant Patel ("Patel"), required his employees to work an average of 55 hours a week and only paid them "straight time" wages, rather than the legally, required time and a half their regular rate of pay, for hours worked in excess of 40 hours a week, as required by the Fair Labor Standards Act ("FLSA"). Chandrakant Patel, the owner of the both stores, Jay Bharat and Standard Sweets and Snacks, has agreed to compensate the 22 workers with their back wages and has reportedly made a commitment to comply with the federal wage and hour laws and regulations in the future. [read post]
