Milliman Inc. found, in a study commissioned by the Society of Actuaries, that almost 1.5 million medical errors in the 2008 cost the US economy $19.5 billion. $17 billion of this came from outpatient, inpatient, and prescription drug services for individuals that were affected by medical mistakes.
