Image by theogeo via Flickr Hooray! Christmas has been saved! Okay, a bit dramatic. But the hue and cry surrounding the so-called Christmas tree tax had reached such a fevered pitch by this afternoon that you could have assumed the very holiday itself was under attack. Rest assured, the holidays are still on track. Nonetheless, President Obama announced plans to nix the proposed fee on the sale of Christmas trees. No more Christmas tree tax. The fees from the sale – which had… [read post]

It’s 11 days until Christmas and as each day goes by, we continue to hear more “War on Christmas” rants from the Religious Right. In order to celebrate holidays I always like to profile some patents relative to the festivities, proving once and for all that… [read post]

My review of the state-of-the-art sleigh technologies shows that during the early 1880s more comfortable sleigh rides were on the minds of many an inventor, and by the mid to late 1890s improvements evolved to include additional features, such as removable seats, steps to assist one to enter and disembark from the sleigh and various steering mechanisms. Matthew Powell While most are still in the thralls of the holiday season, others are ready to take full advantage of the post-Christmas sales.  Many things are offered at drastically reduced prices immediately following the holiday season, especially those items specifically related to the celebrations.  Among those items are artificial Christmas trees.  Artificial trees are very realistic looking and can offer a wonderful ambiance; however, one should be careful about choosing the… [read post]

Finally some good news: the cost of living is apparently holding steady. Earlier this week, the IRS announced that interest rates will remain the same for the calendar quarter beginning January 1, 2012. And that’s not the only indicator… The PNC Christmas Price Index® has been released this year and prices seem to be holding constant. The cost for a set of the gifts in the song “The Twelve Days of Christmas” bumped up a mere 3.5% to $24,263.18 for 2011. This follows a huge leap in 2010 of… [read post]
