Following a nine-day trial, two men and their wives were awarded $12.7 million in damages for a construction accident that left both men with severe burn injuries.
In September 2003, Rudolph Paci and James Sutch were overseeing melting operations at Ametek Speciality Metal Products when a faulty furnace exploded, seriously injuring Paci and Sutch. KERN COUNTY -- A 22-year-old composting worker was taken off life-support and later died due to his injuries in Kern Medical Center's intensive care unit at about 11:04 a.m. Wednesday, The Bakersfield Californian reported. COLUSA - A 58-year-old man was critically injured after a wall fell on him in Colusa, Appeal-Democrat reports. Daniel Kesterson, 58, a member of a demolition crew, along with the head man of the project were tearing down an old lumber yard at the end of Fifth Street near the Sacramento River levee about 10:15 a.m. Thursday morning. SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY - A 48-year-old Rancho Cucamonga man was tragically killed in an industrial accident Friday morning, San Bernardino County Sun reports. The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. at the BMW Training Center in the 1100 block of South Dupont Avenue in Ontario. NEVADA COUNTY - A horrific work-related accident occurred Thursday morning when a man was killed by a wood-chipper in Nevada City. The accident happened on the 10000 block of Indian Shack Road when 50-year-old Martin Lara of Applegate, was tangled in something that was caught in the wood chipper and then entangled around his neck and decapitated him, KCRA News reported.

On April 17th, 2012, shortly before 8:00 p.m., a huge explosion at the West Fertilizer Plant in West, Texas, destroyed surrounding homes and buildings leaving over 130 injured. A fire broke out at the plant earlier and emergency responders were trying to put the fire out when the explosion occurred. Seven emergency responders have been confirmed dead and at least one more is missing.

Little Rock, Arkansas has been ranked in the top ten most accident prone cities. According to an article in a popular health magazine, Little Rock ranked fifth in the number of accidents that occur each year. This finding appears to be based upon statistics from the Bureau of Labor, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Medical Association.

CHINO - A 47-year-old Santa Clarita man very tragically died in an industrial accident Monday afternoon at a Chino tow yard, the Press Enterprise reported. The fatal accident was reported at 3:39 p.m. in an industrial park in the 4700 block of Chino Avenue. The victim, Jose Fernando Morales, was reportedly working on a disabled tow truck that rolled over on to him, according to San Bernardino County coroner's officials. ORANGE COUNTY -- A man was tragically killed and another is in critical condition after being exposed to chemicals at a paint-manufacturing plant on Tuesday afternoon, Orange County Register reported. The incident happened before 2:30 p.m. at Vista Paints, on 2020 east Orangethorpe Avenue, when two men believed to be working inside a "tank" - or a confined area - were overcome by fumes. The North County Times reported a 17-year-old Carlsbad resident was seriously injured early Thursday morning when she drove a Ford F-150 Truck into a construction zone on Carlsbad Boulevard. The accident occurred near Island Way, at about 1 a.m. on April 15th. The teenager was trapped in her vehicle. Two window washes were very critically injured in an accident Saturday in Orinda, Mercury News reported. The two men, Jose Herrera, 51, and Eduardo Guerra, 30, were working for Santa Clara-based Delta Window Cleaning, when the accident occurred outside a three-story Orinda office building around 9:48 a.m. The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Village Square Shopping Center on Orinda Way where the Orinda Farmers Market was underway.

A man was seriously injured Thursday while operating a forklift at the Masonic Home in Union City, officials at the Union City Fire Department reported. According to reports in the Oakland Tribune, the forklift rolled over the man and landed on his leg. The victim was not identified and was described as a man in his early 30's.
