If I only had a nickel for every time I’ve been asked that question…. The honest answer is: “It depends.” Sorry, but that is the best answer any injury lawyer can give you. I am NOT trying to evade the question or be flip, but I have learned over my 25 years of representing injury victims that there is no easy answer to this question. The answer ALWAYS depends on the unique facts of each case. I have settled some cases within a month of the accident; I’ve had other accident cases that… [read post]

California is famous for images of palm trees, sunset beaches, majestic mountains, and vineyards. You would think that Californians would be the most relaxed people in the world! Ironically, California is also famous for L.A. and Hollywood, two places where “fast as lightning” would be a better description of the speed at which people live. [...] [read post]

Unlike many other states, dog owners in California are not allowed the [...] [read post]

It is a fact of this life that one never knows when one’s life will end. You could be driving down the street one day, and without warning, BAM! It’s all over. It’s a disturbing thought, yes, but it’s something that happens all too often in this country. The death of Los Angeles Angels pitcher [...] [read post]

Spring and Summer time are wonderful times to be a child! Playgrounds offer a variety of equipment for children to spend their time playing, jumping, running and climbing. Too often however, playgrounds are not really safe for children and each year, hundreds of children are injured because equipment is faulty, broken or damaged. As parents, [...] [read post]

About a week ago, the family of Roger Ballenger came forward to ask the driver who hit the beloved father and grandfather on Minkler Road in Sedro Woolley to turn themselves in. The call came into his son, Josh, last Wednesday evening that his father had died. One witness saw Roger fall down in the road, and attempted to help him. The truck that hit him never slowed, even after it had struck Roger Ballenger. His family searched the area for clues but was unsuccessful in uncovering any sign of the… [read post]

Sunday’s Austin American Statesman had a great article about the increasing number of auto-pedestrian fatalities in Austin.  While the bigger trend is for fewer traffic fatalities, the number of auto-pedestrian accidents and fatalities is increasing.  Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo has two theories about the increase.  One, increased alcohol usage by motorists and pedestrians could explain part of the problem.  Additionally, people now have more disregard for pedestrians at… [read post]

I’m sure most of us have heard studies complaining about America’s traffic and how much it costs Americans to sit in congestion.  While that’s bad, it’s not nearly the cost of car wrecks. Earlier this month, the American Automobile Association  (AAA) released a study, Crashes v. Congestion — What’s The Cost To Society?    The study found that the annual societal cost of car wrecks is $300 billion, more than three times the $98 billion cost of congestion.  That comes out to $1,522… [read post]

The Center for Disease Control conducts a survey with high school students every year that questions them about potentially harmful driving habits.  This year, they’ve gotten back some very good results, but also some very disheartening results.  What’s great news is that the percentage of teens who report not wearing a seatbelt in cars has decreased from 26% in 1991 to 8% in 2011.  It’s always a good idea to buckle up, and we’re happy to hear that teens are paying more attention to… [read post]

As a Seattle auto accident attorney, I am an advocate against drinking and driving under any circumstances. Driving under the influence impairs judgment and motor skills that are necessary for operating a vehicle. According to King 5 News, an 18 year old has been charged with vehicular homicide due to drinking and driving that resulted in three deaths. The accident occurred on November 12th just after 12a.m. when the driver, Kaylea Souza, tried to pass a car and lost control of her vehicle. This… [read post]

Michigan auto accident lawyers of Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. recently created an infographic, “Drunk Driving Crash Deaths Soar to Sobering Numbers” on 2011 United States death statistics. The infographic visually displays the contrasts in accidental deaths compared to drunk driving crash deaths. It was created to make people aware of the very high number of deaths that take place due to drunk driving, and to remind society that drunk driving is not an accident and can be easily… [read post]

Last Sunday, former NFL quarterback Joey Harrington was seriously injured in a bicycle accident.  Apparently he was riding his bicycle when an SUV passed too close to him and struck him.  he was taken to the hospital where he was diagnosed as having a broken collar bone, a  punctured lung, and other injuries.  Thankfully, he appears to be okay  (and this is obviously a relative term given the serious nature of his injuries). I’ve represented a number of people who have suffered serious… [read post]

According to new data released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, pedestrian fatality numbers are up by 4% in 2010, compared to 2009.  However, these numbers are still 13% lower than they were in 2001.  While the number of fatalities have decreased overall, as Seattle car accident attorneys, it is always a concern to see the numbers rising again.  4,280 pedestrians were killed in accidents in 2010 alone.  The data reported that, on average, a pedestrian was killed in an… [read post]
