Commuters in the Garden State faced some nasty traffic this morning because of… a goat? That’s right, a goat reportedly escaped onto the Pulaski Skyway, a road that thousands of drivers use every day to get to the Holland Tunnel in New Jersey. My vehicle doesn’t have what I would consider a huge gas tank, but when I went to fill it up the other day, I have to admit that I gasped a little bit when I saw my grand total. High-speed police chases have been happening all over Western Washington recently. The last two we have reported ended with one woman dead and a man being airlifted in critical condition to the hospital. A police chase in Marysville today fortunately did not end with any deaths or even injuries. Officers made an attempt to pull a driver over. Evan Rolando Soto and Jeffrey Steven Bryce Jr. were injured and another person was killed in a Miramar, Florida collision on Saturday, news sources report. Bryce sustained critical injuries in the crash; his passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Soto, 26, sustained minor injuries. The Florida Highway Patrol is currently conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident; so far, no charges have been filed. An Amtrak train struck a car stopped on railroad tracks on the Westside of Jacksonville Tuesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. State troopers said a 55-year-old woman was heading east on Timuquana Road on the Westside when the car became disabled on the tracks at the intersection of U.S. 17 shortly before 11 a.m. The woman was able to safely exit the vehicle before the collision occurred. Auto accident attorneys at Pintas & Mullins point to a new study by the University of Buffalo which revealed that the odds of death in a car were 7.6 times greater than for those in an SUV. Additionally, a separate study found that more than 60% of all distracted driving-related fatalities were caused not by cell phones, but by simple daydreaming. A 24-year old man crashed his car into an attenuator near the West Seattle exit along I-5 causing one fatality and injuring five others. According to a Washington State Patrol media release, the driver was driving over the speed limit and there were drugs or alcohol involved in the crash. The crash killed 20-year old Asha Salim, of Federal Way. Salim died at the scene of the accident and was not wearing a seat belt. As the baby boomer population ages, there will be an increasing number of older drivers on the road. Older drivers who become impaired can pose a risk to other motorists and passengers; they are also more at risk of accident and injury. In an effort to prevent car accident deaths over the Memorial Day weekend, the Washington State Patrol is looking to ticket drivers not wearing seat belts. For the next two weeks, the WSP will be running extra emphasis patrols and stopping and ticketing drivers who are not buckled up. The WSP ticketed 3,171 seat belt tickets last year at the same time during a two-week "Click it or Ticket" campaign. Since the City Council banned the use of cellphones while driving in Illinois, the people of Evanston have experienced a drop in the number of car crashes. According to an article in The Daily Northwestern, the Evanston Police Department reported that the amount of roadway crashes decreased by 17 percent from 2009 to 2012. On Sunday in Surprise, Arizona, the suspect in a Phoenix hit-and-run car accident that took the life of a Phoenix police officer yesterday was apprehended. Shortly after 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, a car accident injured nine people in Winchester. A passenger van collided head-on with a sport utility vehicle at the intersection of Highway 74 and Winchester Road. Emergency responders freed three people from the wreckage.
