If the truth be told, I'd rather be coaching. While there is absolutely no doubt that as a Rhode Island lawyer divorce coaching certainly isn't very profitable and I'd make considerably more money representing people in court, , I'd still rather be coaching. Why? First, it isn't all about money. Coaching is about helping people. I wanted to do something with my life that truly made a difference. I didn't want to make a difference just once or twice or even 5 out of 10 times. I wanted to make a… [read post]

The Rhode Island Divorce Coaching Program™ was created based on three fundamental principles: 1) Not Everyone has the financial ability to hire an experienced Rhode Island divorce lawyer in a divorce case. 2) People Always Need Competent Legal Guidance but not necessarily Legal Representation in a Divorce Case. 3) People need an affordable alternative to retaining an attorney to represent them in a divorce. The Rhode Island Divorce Coaching Program™ is exclusive to my divorce law practice and… [read post]

Does your Rhode Island divorce have to be difficult? No. So what makes a Rhode Island divorce proceeding so difficult? One major factor is that people make their own divorces difficult. Most of the time the difficulty in a divorce in Rhode Island or another state arises from any combination of ten (10) of the following factors: 1) Feelings of Entitlement as a result of the history with your spouse or a wrong you perceive your spouse has "done" to you; 2) Anger toward your spouse; 3) Resentment about… [read post]

In a Rhode Island Divorce you could represent yourself. In fact, many people are representing themselves these days. This is called being "Pro Se." Unfortunately it's easy to make a mistake in your Rhode Island divorce without a lawyer advising you about the pros and cons of what you are doing. Words are everything in the legal profession. I once heard former Rhode Island Supreme Court Justice Joseph Weisberger wisely say "A good lawyer must become a master at wording because every word counts."… [read post]

If a Rhode Island divorce is in your future, wouldn't you rather be an economical one? Of course, it only makes common sense. Why not do it yourself? Don't think you can? Hogwash! It's possible. Is it possible in EVERY case? No, it isn't. Some divorces require a divorce lawyer's expertise and representation. This could be for any number of reasons. It could relate to issues regarding the children, the assets, the debts or perhaps the attitudes of the parties. Yet wouldn't it make sense to know if… [read post]

The best RI Divorce is an amicable one. That's my opinion of course. Lawyers who insist on paying for their Jaguars, BMWs, boats, planes, summer homes, and much more might well disagree with me. My humble divorce coaching and lawyering opinion here might differ on this issue because I can do without all the "stuff" they have or want that they have to pay for. After all, how would a Rhode Island lawyer pay for this "stuff" and maximize their income to do so? Well, he or she could have an extremely… [read post]

Rhode Island uncontested divorces in my estimation have their own divorce recipe. What is that uncontested divorce recipe in Rhode Island you ask? Here is my RI Uncontested Divorce recipe for those who represent themselves in a nutshell. 1. Your own common sense. 2. Your willingness to get some professional coaching. 3. Your ability to follow directions. Many Rhode Island lawyers will tell you ALMOST exactly what I will tell you. Most RI lawyers who handle a moderate amount of divorces will tell you… [read post]

If you have chosen to be represented by a Rhode Island lawyer in your divorce proceeding, you need to get your brain pumping and shift it into gear. Do not expect the lawyer to really know your life by telling him or her a few details. Disclosure needs to be 100%. Only YOU know your life well enough to inform your attorney of everything that he or she needs to know to represent you properly. Many people think that a good lawyer who practices in divorce will ask all the necessary questions in order… [read post]

A Rhode Island man called me on Thursday. The man wanting to know what price I charged for handling a simple uncontested Rhode Island divorce. I told him that it is not quite that simple. "Why not?", the man asked. I explained that I provide quotes on a case by case basis after a one hour hour coaching and case evaluation session. "What?!?", the man stated angrily. I calmly explained that I have a one hour coaching session with each prospective client to ask the necessary questions, advise the… [read post]

Some people may tell you that the Rhode Island Family Court judges will help you through the divorce proceeding if you've reached an agreement with your spouse. Is it true? Yes. So the next question is fairly obvious. Since the Judges in the Rhode Island divorce cases do these things all the time, if they are going to help me through the process, why in the world do I need a Rhode island lawyer's help at all. Hey, it's a Great Question! I have to admit that. Yet here is the big catch. The Rhode… [read post]
