My brother-in-law has been a lover of all things Apple for as long as I can remember. In fact, on the first day the iPad was released, he waited in line several hours just to be one of the first people to get one. Every time I would complain about my PC and the issues I was having, he'd inevitably say, "Gotta get a MAC." First, we got our iPhones. Next, after many hours and probably even days of lost work time, we finally broke down and bought my iMac. And most recently, I received my beloved… [read post]

I think the iPad will be a big disappointment for Apple and its customers. Look, this is just a giant iPod Touch, and that is about it. Kind of like a phone, but it does not fit into a pocket. And no multitasking, full-version software, USB ports, video outs, or Flash. Microsoft tried this with Windows CE, and look where that wound up. The iPad has a processor slower than a netbook, no physical keyboard, and runs a stripped-down version of OS X. Not stripped-down like Google's Chrome OS, which can… [read post]

This patent protects Apple’s 4th-generation iPod Shuffle, originally introduced by the electronics device manufacturer back in September 2010. The application for this patent was originally filed as of late August 2010. The patent’s background section describes many of the difficulties faced by Apple in the development of their line of iPod Shuffles. The Shuffle is designed to be an electronic device contained within a very small housing while fitting in the proper media player… [read post]

So, if you follow me on twitter (@esquiremac), you knew a long time ago that my wife and I returned our Palm Pre’s within the first week of owning them. I previously chronicled my thoughts about the Pre after my first two days of ownership about a month ago. There were a lot of positives about the Pre. To name a few: Hands down, best rate plan available, by a long shot; Aside from the iPhone, probably the best darn phone out there; Good 3G data access; Nice size, comfortable fit in your hand or… [read post]

Justice Antonin Scalia, being interviewed by Jan Crawford of CBS News at the Federalist Society's annual dinner in Washington, DC.On Thursday evening, I had the great pleasure of attending the annual dinner at the Federalist Society’s National Lawyers Convention, in Washington, D.C. The event — attended by an estimated 1,400 people, and held in the cavernous ballroom at the Omni Shoreham — featured, as always, conservative and libertarian legal luminaries galore.(Did Judge Diane Sykes just… [read post]

Without a doubt, the Palm Pre is the best phone I have ever owned. Of course, that’s not saying much, since the previous best phone I ever owned was my Sanyo Katana that I’ve had for over 2.5 years, and it was just a plain ol’ phone. Why Pre? My wife and I have been getting along pretty well with each of us having a cell phone, iPod Touch, and a digital camera (of the Canon SD variety). We completed our latest 2 year contract with Sprint a little over 6 months ago, and we loved being contract… [read post]
