Reuters had reported that the U.S. Justice Dept. will file several lawsuits alleging mortgage fraud against financial institutions in 2014. AG Eric Holder told Reuters that his agency would use the JPMorgan Chase case as its model for future lawsuits. These cases stem from a White House task force. One possible target is Bank of America which has stated that the U.S. Attorney’s office will recommend a civil suit against it. [read post]

A University of California study found that Prozac (fluoxetine) contributed to birth abnormalities in children whose mother took fluoxetine treatments during her pregnancy. Specifically, the study revealed that these children experienced three or more minor abnormalities twice as frequently as normal babies.   Birth defects were most common when babies were exposed to fluoxetine during the third trimester. The Appraisal Institute has released a study concluding that solar photovoltaic systems typically increase market value and almost always decrease marketing time of single-family homes in the Denver metropolitan area. A PV system is a solar electric system that is designed to convert sunlight into electricity. According to a recent report by LexisNexis, appraisal and mortgage fraud has decreased nationwide. The FBI’s pending fraud cases was 1,954 during fiscal year 2012 as compared to 2,691 cases reported the previous year. The biggest category of fraud was application fraud which accounted for almost 70%. 9% involved appraisal fraud which was a very sharp decrease from 75% in 2009. The New Jersey legislature is considering a bill that would abolish NJ’s Real Estate Appraisers Board and transfer regulation of appraisers to the state’s Real Estate Commission. The House of Cards producers are threatening to leave Maryland if they don’t get millions more dollars in tax credits. In response, members of the Maryland House of Delegates have threatened to condemn the sets, equipment and other property used for that show. The threat was proposed Thursday afternoon by Del. C.
