Now, suppose you return to Pennsylvania and attempt to obtain a new driver's license, following the proper steps as designated by state law. Would you be able to obtain a drivers license in PA? According to state law, an individual who has had his or her license revoked in another state will be… [read post]

An apparent tip to a dispatcher led to the arrest of a man this week. The Denver Police arrested him after a call that suggested he was the owner of a Jeep that was involved in a hit-and-run accident this week. Police say they believe that the Jeep he owned was involved in the accident. Police also seized another vehicle on Sunday that turned out to not be the vehicle involved in the death of a Denver college student. Because the hit-and-run accident resulted in a death, it increases the severity of… [read post]

In the last post, we discussed several different types of Pennsylvania traffic violations and several different scenarios in which you might be ticketed. However, what happens following the ticket is just about as important as the ticket itself. This is when you have the opportunity to stand up for yourself and, if improperly cited, fight to have the traffic violation cleared from your record. Most traffic tickets given out in Pennsylvania result in fines and points added to your driving record,… [read post]
A man was arrested earlier this month after police say he shot at them during two different traffic stops. The man was arrested after police say he led them on a chase. The charges that the man might face are not yet known, but they could be very serious. When a person is arrested, they might not know what to do. Police will often question suspects and try to get them to give details that might end in a conviction of a crime. If a person is arrested, they have the right to speak with an attorney. An… [read post]

For Pennsylvania drivers, getting any type of ticket for a traffic violation can be frustrating. These types of violations can include drunk driving, speeding, and even evading a police officer. But can officers offer drivers "downgraded" tickets during traffic stops? Some drivers may hear stories from their friends that they were offered a lesser ticket by a police officer. One driver commented that he had seen a local police officer bargain with a driver about a lesser ticket for a traffic… [read post]

Most drivers have had to pull over the side of the road in order to let an emergency responder or police car zoom past. Lights and sirens inform motorists of the need to pull over or stop, that a speeding vehicle is nearing them on its way to an emergency. That procedure is meant to prevent traffic accidents. This matter is of interest currently because of a recent Alabama crash involving an Alabama State Trooper and another driver. A vehicle driven by a mother and with her children as passengers… [read post]

Every day in Pennsylvania scores of drivers are caught in speed traps. According to state law, officers can only pull you over if you are traveling six miles or more above the speed limit. Still, it's not hard to find disgruntled drivers who are willing to dispute the grounds on which a traffic ticket was given. Wouldn't it be easier if you could just avoid these speed traps in the first place? That's not to say that drivers should drive safely past police speed traps and 20 mph over the speed limit… [read post]

There are a number of different reasons why a Pennsylvania police officer might pull a driver over. If a driver is speeding, driving recklessly, or weaving in and out of the lane, the police officer can stop the driver and issue a ticket for a traffic violation. But drivers beware: refusing to pull over for a police officer can result in even more penalties and fines. And police officers may just continue to pursue the driver. In fact, a recent report was released by the Pennsylvania State Police… [read post]

One of the ways in which the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDot) attempts to make roads safer is to award grants to individual law enforcement agencies with the intent of providing a greater police presence on specific roadways. For the third straight year, Somerset Borough has received such a grant, but the number of citations handed out for traffic violations has angered a number of residents. According to police, the law enforcement effort is following the instructions of the… [read post]
The vote last November to legalized small amounts of marijuana in Colorado, along with permitted medicinal uses, has posed many new questions that need to be answered surrounding the legalization. One of the biggest questions right now is how much THC should be allowed in a person's bloodstream while driving. THC is the main ingredient in Marijuana that causes a "high." This agent can persist in the bloodstream much longer than alcohol, although its effects might have worn off much sooner. According… [read post]

More and more traffic tickets are being handed out every month for violations of state texting and handheld laws. All said, around 30 states have passed laws banning texting behind the wheel. Many also have some sort of handheld restriction on the books, but these have varied greatly in both scope and penalty. Recently, the Highway Loss Data Institute took a look at four states that currently have texting bans in place. They compared car accident data from these states, with the numbers of similar… [read post]

The family of a 33-year-old Loveland man is likely hoping for such an outcome. He has been arrested and is under investigation for alleged careless… [read post]

Pennsylvania residents may find themselves with more tickets for traffic violations in the future. PennDOT is seeking to have traffic enforcement cameras installed across the state, broadening the scope beyond the city of Philadelphia. In addition, PennDOT believes that these cameras should also be installed in construction zones. Traffic enforcement cameras take pictures of cars that run red lights. Using the license plate information, drivers who are caught by these cameras are sent a traffic… [read post]

There are a lot of ways that a driver can be ticketed while on the road. But residents throughout the state should be aware of another campaign that has begun that could lead to more traffic violations for drivers. As the holiday season approaches, Pennsylvania State Police are focusing their efforts on keeping the roads safe for drivers. … [read post]
