A Federal Stability Oversight Board comprised of the chair of the Fed, SEC, HUD Secretary, Treasury Secretary, and Director of the new Federal Housing Finance Agency (which oversees Fannie, Freddie and the Federal Home Loan Banks) would be created along with a separate congressional oversight authority comprised of five independent outside experts chosen by the House and Senate leadership of both parties. The FHA stated that these changes would align FHA with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and will potentially increase the number of loan correspondents (mortgage brokers) who are eligible to participate in the origination of FHA-insured loans while providing for more effective oversight of loan correspondents through the FHA-approved mortgage lenders.
