I haven't read it yet but I think the answer is that "middle-aged music" is just something a lot of people want to be freed to like.The author, Carl Wilson (not the dead Beach Boy, I presume)  is "concerned the younger generation may be suffering alarmingly low levels of acerbity. [read post]
