Last week in the courts On 20th February 2023, in the case of Smith & Anor v Surridge & Ors [2023] EWHC 351 (KB), Judge Lewis found that the statements made by the defendant in a reference produced for the claimants’ new employer concerning safeguarding issues at their school carried a defamatory meaning.
