The New York Civil Liberties Union has announced that Jeremiah Gutman, a prominent New York civil rights attorney who just a few days ago testified as a defense witness in the Martha Stewart trial (for a short time he acted as a lawyer for Douglas Faneuil, the government's star witness in the case), died Wednesday at the age of 80 after succumbing to a heart attack at a train station.
