To the extent that Siegel is saying that many of today's real-life-related jokes aren't funny, there have always been unfunny jokes.Maybe his point is: These days, we feel social pressure to accept and act appreciative of unfunny comedy that makes reference to subject matter that we believe we're supposed to take seriously.
