If you’re studying medieval philosophy, and you study right after the time of Aquinas’ death, so he dies in 1274, and when you pick up from there and study the next great medieval philosophers, John Duns Scotus, William of Ockam and so on, their way of thinking is not completely opposed to Aquinas, but they’re coming out of a slightly different tradition.
