So I don’t agree with President Pines’s (understandably hurried and thus perhaps not carefully crafted) suggestion that the Maryland episode is an example of “free speech and academic freedom” insofar as there is no free-speech entitlement to stop others from speaking and hearing, and my sense of academic freedom is that, in a similar fashion, it does not include a liberty to shut down free expression of ideas of others.
