The summer season has ended, only a handful of summer associates came away with offers at hand, and now Big Law associates are bracing for what may be another wave of layoffs as we approach the end of the year.While overall layoffs plummeted in August, which was recorded the slowest month of reported layoffs since mid-2008, September has already started with more robust numbers. Although we expect layoffs to continue until the end of the year, with a focus on staff and senior associates, overall numbers seem to be decreasing.While the signs of an economic recovery may be on the horizon for 2010, many predict that we won't get back to full employment - or to about a 5% unemployment rate prior to the recession - until 2013 or 2014.
