Midwest grocery chain Hy-Vee announced it would take a similar approach, while other chains, including Safeway and Supervalu, said they would no longer sell LFTB products.Last week, Beef Products Inc. suspended operations at three of its four processing plants in response to loss of business from supermarkets and restaurant chains, effectively scaling back production by 70 percent. In late January, McDonald's announced that it would stop adding the product to its ground beef.One grocery chain, Iowa-based Hy-Vee, has already reversed its decision to discontinue selling LFTB-supplemented meat at its 233 locations, saying it will instead label its ground beef containing LFTB to allow customers a choice. Other companies including Perry’s Ice cream Company, Food Lion Cookie, Hy-Vee Inc, have all removed their products containing peanut butter from store shelves as a precautionary measure because of the fear that these could contain traces of the contaminated butter. [read post]
