It was not until 1998 that the public performance of post-2/15/72 recordings obtained any Federal protection at all, and then that protection extended only to digital transmission of sound recordings, i.e., webcasting, digital downloads, satellite radio services like Sirius XM, but NOT conventional over-the-air radio broadcasts.
