They are expected to present their purchase proposals by month's end.Certainly someone needs to buy the once-proud and now-ailing auto giant before it falls into a deep economic sleep from which it can't recover...and it seems clear that its European corporate parent is about to kick this corporate stepchild out on the streets! In 1999 in Germany, former shareholders of Daimler-Benz AG instituted a valuation proceeding (a so-called Spruchstellenverfahren) against DaimlerChrysler AG in Stuttgart district court, claiming that the ratio used in the course of the merger with Chrysler Corporation to determine the value of the Daimler-Benz shares was too low. Apparently so.Last fall DaimlerChrysler's Chief Financial Officer had said that he wouldn't rule out a sale of the Chrysler "arm" of DaimlerChrysler, only to have the corporation itself issue a press release the next day saying Chrysler wasn't for sale. [read post]
