Because today, the Supreme Court limited to ability of employees to sue their employers for discrimination.That means women who have been paid less than their male counterparts over the course of their careers may not be able to sue for sex discrimination if they don't discover the pay disparities early in their tenure. Senators Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe voted against the Paycheck Fairness Act, but voted for the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which can only mean they believe that since we have the right to sue for equal pay (if we find out we’re being discriminated against), they don’t believe we should have it in the first place.
