  But what really struck me, time and again during this evening, was what an absolute gem we have in the NY Philharmonic - probably underappreciated by the home town fans, who are spoiled by the parade of stellar visiting orchestras that come through Avery Fisher and Carnegie Halls every year, showing off their touring programs that are polished to a fine sheen through the repetition of touring.
