The situation is somewhat better in Western Canada, where the Council of Prairie and Pacific University Libraries (COPPUL) not only has established the Shared Print Archive Network (SPAN) in 2012 but is actively developing the archive, using the offsite, high-density storage facilities of the University of British Columbia, University of Alberta and University of Calgary to ensure preservation of the shared collections.
