My collaborator, experimental psychologist and law prof Yuval Feldman (Bar-Ilan) and I have launched an empirical study testing the behavior of individuals within complex organizations, looking at how different factors such as agency enforcement, organizational structure and invidual ranks affect the likelihood that an employee will report illegality when witnessed at the workplace. Many of my friends, including my frequent collaborator, Yuval Feldman, who just these days has arrived to the United States for one such two-year sabbatical (we almost are like characters in David Lodge’s Switching Places; two planes waving at each other airborne), believe that the first year is the hard one, with all the efforts, logistics, adjustments, bureaucracy, and socialization, and the second year is the one you get to enjoy.
