The first two authorities, Nichols v Amalgamated Press (1908) Macg Cop Cas (1905-10) 2 166 and Schroeder Music Publishing v Macaulay [1974] 1 WLR 1308 (HL), involved music publishing contracts where the copyright assigned was in a musical composition, depriving the creator of the ability to benefit economically from their creation for the term of the copyright.
