Once your law blog gains steam, visitors will start to leave comments, and things will get interesting. Comments will range from personal attacks to spam to positive feedback. When you are deciding how to respond, keep these things in mind. Spam comments. Most of the time, these are easy to spot. The link included goes to a site filled with tags, keywords, and a bunch of gibberish. Sometimes, a spammer might leave a seemingly real comment, but the link is to a site that is basically… [read post]

Fermentation's list of AB law writers is a good one. I came across this wonderful blog by Tom Warks, today. Tom runs Fermentation: The Daily Wine Blog, a blog typically discussing the public relations within the wine world. Tom regularly focuses on legal issues facing the wine industry and so he put together a list of some of the best alcoholic beverage law blogs out there. Included was a humble yours truly, amongst a wonderful crowd of legal minds. Check out his list of legal blogs by following… [read post]

I posted the first article regarding this topic earlier in the week.  It now looks like this idea is being shot down by the Huntington Beach, CA city council.  This new article discusses some of the public backlash this idea was receiving, as well as some of the problems I discussed.  Mainly a person's right to be presumed innocent, and privacy laws to mention a few. As you click through to each of the blogs, you will notice the content on each of the blogs is different. Patentlyo.com appears to be statistically driven. Mr. Crouch produces many different patent stats. We appreciate him for that. Gene’s IPWatchDog.com blog is filled with opinion of legal patent developments. Againstmonopoly.com highlights how patents and other IP protection hurt society. The list goes on and on. Instead of visiting only the top blogs, I recommend that you spend some time… [read post]

You can find multiple posts on Lawyerist about why a blog can help with marketing and jumpstart a new practice Creating a blog, however, is just the first step. A recent article indicates that content, interaction, audience, and support are the most important factors in creating a successful blog. So you have a blog (or want to start one) and you need content. Your time is limited. What can you do? First, don't assume you need to spend hours writing your posts. As I've written before, a post can be a few paragraphs that take just a few minutes to write. It can be as simple as taking something you read online and adding your comments. Tell why you agree, or disagree, link to another post that provides a different viewpoint or additional information, or share a story from your… [read post]

If you have created your own law blog, you have taken a huge step towards creating an online marketing presence. Blogs, however, require constant attention and upkeep, and can start to feel stale after the initial excitement wears off. If you find yourself ignoring your blog, or you are just bored with it, shake things up a bit. Add new voices Successful TV shows always add new characters to bring in new viewers and keep the old ones satisfied, and blogs are no exceptions. Different viewpoints will… [read post]
