Freshway O145 outbreak: In the last month, the FDA, CDC, and state health departments nationally have been investigating an E. coli O145 outbreak that has sickened some 30 people in Michigan (11 confirmed and 2 probable), New York (5 confirmed and 2 probable), Ohio (8 confirmed and 3 probable), Pennsylvania (1 confirmed), and Tennessee (1 confirmed). To date, Marler Clark has filed eight complaints in relation to the nationwide E. coli O157:H7 outbreak including this complaint against Papa Murphy’s, along with one in Georgia against Texas Roadhouse, one in New Jersey against Panera, one in Pennsylvania against Freshway, two in Arizona against Red Lobster, and an additional two in California against Papa Murphy’s. E. coli concerns have prompted a recall of lettuce from 23 states (Source: 10TV.com) Earlier this week, Freshway Foods of Sidney Ohio conducted a product liability recall of lettuce that was shipped and sold in 23 states around the U.S., possibly causing an E. coli outbreak that has personally injured 19 people at least.   Discussing just this issue, the Center for Infectious Disease Reporting and Policy at the University of Minnesota (CIDRAP) issued a detailed statement today on the E. coli O145 lettuce outbreak linked to contaminated Freshway lettuce: The CDC said there are limited surveillance data on illnesses involving non-O157 serotypes of Shiga toxin-producing E coli (STEC), including O145.
