Today the US Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit issued its decision in Leslie Klinger v Conan Doyle Estate, in which upheld the decision of the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois - Eastern Division that Mr Klinger was free to use material in the 50 Sherlock Holmes stories and novels that are no longer protected by copyright. The 7th Circuit affirmed the conviction finding the following with regard to the defendant's confrontation clause challenge to the supervisor's testimony: Applying Williams, the circuit court found that the analysis targeted the defendant, and that the statement would likely be considered for its truth because the case was a jury trial; andThe circuit court found the report the functional equivalent of the report in Bullcoming.
