In Ireland, under the Government’s proposals, a new Media Commission will replace the existing Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, to regulate not just the broadcasting sector but also the audiovisual sector pursuant to AVMS II, and it will have wide-ranging and robust compliance, enforcement and sanction powers (including administrative fines (pdf) [similar to those available to the Data Protection Commission] and blocking offending online services).
