KPMG was the auditor for Countrywide, and Countrywide itself was purchased by Bank of America in 2008, which will eventually pay the amount.According to New York Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, Countrywide exposed investors to “excessive, undisclosed risk” and “violated securities laws by making misstatements and omitting material facts about its policies and procedures” for lending.
