Correlation is not causation, so I tried to think of other factors that could explain this and came up with the following hypotheses: Complexity of the cases: I don’t think cases have increased all that much in “legal” or even “factual” complexity (I discuss below that cases may have increased in “evidentiary complexity”), but maybe I’m missing something, in which case feel free to comment.
