Patrick Leahy, D-VT,  that seeks to increase the criminal penalties for knowingly shipping tainted food and would allow federal prosecutors to seek up to a ten-year jail sentence for doing that.The Center also supports an amendment from Senators Bernie Sanders I-VT,  and Barbara Boxer, D-CA,   that clarifies the existing authority that states have to require the labeling of genetically engineered (GE) foods.
