This summer, researchers in the United States and Australia reported that humans have 10 trillion or so bacteria in their gastrointestinal tracts and more than 10 times that amount of bacteriophages residing and "working" there.Bacteriophages -- so named when they were first discovered because they appear to eat bacteria -- are naturally occurring viruses that can infect and kill bacteria.
