While the House and Senate try in conference committee to hammer out an agreement on the defense spending bill, and while I hope (I fear forlornly) that what emerges will not include the death penalty for hate crimes (a provision Republican Senators inserted in the hope, theirs was forlorn too, that it would kill the expansion of hate crimes protection in the bill) (see here and here and here), Doug Berman came across an even more troubling prospect.As he reports, a drunk driver in China… [read post]
