Although the pain of the present is not pleasant for Taft-Hartley plans nor for the employees whose retirement, health, and other welfare plan interests they represent, the hope is that through this necessary recalibration and restructuring multiemployer benefit plans will become stronger, with more secure participants and beneficiaries in the near future.
