As I explained in a post I did last year, in executing a search warrant police have to stay within the scope of the warrant; that is, they can only search things that could contain what they're looking for (so if they're looking for a stolen big screen TV, they can't search dresser drawers) and they can only seize items that fall within the scope of the warrant (the big screen TV).
