Back of the envelope calculation of classic albums from the Wild West stage of sampling if they were made today—the cost is essentially infinite—sampling “Hotel California” alone would lead to demands for 100%. 275% of the composition royalties and 39 cents per album for just one song—Beastie Boys would lose $8 per album.
