In January, Toyota Motor Corp. announced the recall of 1.3 million motor vehicles internationally because of a defect that could cause the foam pad located near the seat belt to catch on fire during motor vehicle crashes because the mechanism that is supposed to tighten the seat belt emits a certain gas. 134,900 Yaris subcompacts (2006 and 2007) models sold in the US were part of the recall.
