The idea that the corporation itself isn't a person (which is only relevant, of course, with the corollary that only people pay tax) has been undercut by the expanding scope of the Slaughterhouse Case decisions that treat a corporation as a person for constitutional purposes--including the recent Citizens United case that allows corporations to spend money to influence election campaigns, though they cannot (yet) vote.
