If a loan is not guaranteed by the FHA, VA, Fannie / Freddie, or private mortgage insurance ("PMI"), then the note holder absorbs the entire loss when an upside down loan is foreclosed. 3) Lenders have a large inventory of homes already owned because of foreclosure, plus even more in the pipeline. For those of you who think that the government can magically make health care more affordable, just remember what happened after the government directed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to make home ownership more affordable.Update:Charles Kenny makes a good point that better health care is not necessarily expensive. The Hartford Courant reports that State Attorney General Richard Blumenthal has sent letters to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as well as a third mortgage company to find out why they repeatedly retained the same two law firms to handle all of their foreclosure proceedings in Connecticut. [read post]
