Reacting to the recent suggestion that Texas Court of Criminal Appeals Presiding Judge Sharon Keller should be impeached for ordering a clerk not to accept a tardy, last-minute death penalty appeal in 2007, the New York Times editorialized this morning that, "If the facts are as reported, Judge Keller should be removed from the bench. The clerk elected by the voters of Rowan County, Kentucky, has been sent to jail by a Kentucky federal judge, for refusing to perform an act under Kentucky state law that five majority justices of the United States Supreme Court have ordered that Kentucky must change in order to be in compliance with that Court's ukase.What is wrong with this picture?
